Born in Maribor in 1959. She lives in Ljubljana and works as an independent film director and author of art video films, video installations and intermedia projects. After graduating in film and TV directing at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana (she also attended a two year master school at the Documentary Campus Master School in Munich and Leipzig), Jasna Hribernik quickly established herself as one of the most active, insightful and renowned Slovenian authors of documentary films, with a very distinctive authorial approach. Since 1985 she made almost thirty documentaries – including 45 Kilometres of Sea (45 km morja, 1985), The Bells of Chernobyl (Černobilski zvonovi, 1991), When a Ball Hit Our Heads (Ko nam je žoga padla na glavo, 2000), A Concert for Mobile Phones and an Orchestra (Koncert za mobilne telefone in orkester, 2005), The Last Boat (Zadnji čoln, 2005), The World Didn't Know it Found itself in a Song (Svet ni vedel, da je pristal v pesmi, 2008), We Don't Want White Bread (Nočemo belega kruha, 2009), Labyrinth (Labirint, 2009), Alfred & Sofie (2013),Vitanje in space: Sunita (Vitanje v vesolju: Sunita, 2015), Endless beginning (Neskončni začetek, 2018), Symphony of Sorrowfull songs (Simfonija otožnih pesmi, 2019), Next stop KIOSK (Naslednja postaja KIOSK, 2021). She has received numerous awards for her films, in Slovenia and internationally. From the early nineties she was exploring expressive possibilities of the film medium and seeking out junctions with sculpture, architecture, fine arts and music. This brought her to the field of video art – video installations or Videospace, as she calls her installations. She presented several artistic videos and video installations (Staircase, Ballabende, Arch of the body, Night flight, Albedo, Migrating Frame, Tense Present) at home and abroad (Ars Electronica Linz, Tokyo Art video Festival, Venice Bienalle, Slovenian Film Festival Portorož, PixxelPoint Nova Gorica). She is also producing video-scenes for theatrical plays. In 2011 she filmed a medium length film Franja, and her feature film Vandima is in postproduction. Her research into video media and multimedia art has led her to work closely with scientists, which she has recently strengthened. In 2020 she made an interactive performance Communication Echolocation (in cooperation with Ljoba Jenče and Oceania project). In recent years she participates in projects at the intersection of art, science and technology, which are critical to the changing world and the position of man in it. From 2012 she lectures as an Aassociate professor at the School of Arts of University in Nova Gorica with the master program Time and Space in Moving Images and Staging the Scene.
