“On the Run, an American song” is Emil Memon’s song dealing with anguish and paranoia of American life. It is a cinematic song, lyrics describing young lovers, like in Hollywood movies, running away from the law across the vast U.S., something out of Arthur Pen’s “Bonnie and Clyde”. Lyrics have a reference to Lou Reed’s “Berlin” record. As a video work and visual art, the visuals are reduced to static with minimal jumps of images. The image as direct as it is, in this case, is conveyed with symbology of colour signifier. The red enamel spray paint drips over black spray on metal is a detail from Emil Memon’s “Blue Movie Triptych” (spray paint, photography, metal, 1985, 2018).
The track was recorded 2017/18 by Konrad Meissner in his Dumbo, Brooklyn recording studio. (Source: Emil Memon)
