Video documentation of the Video evening with DIVA Station: Duba Sambolec event at the Photon Gallery on May 4, 2022. Vesna Bukovec, expert associate of DIVA Station, talked with the artist about her relationship to video and performance in the context of her wider artistic practice. The talk was in Slovene langauge.
Duba Sambolec has created a series of video works in her extensive and diverse artistic oeuvre. In 2000, a cycle of 14 video performances entitled NoHomeVideos© was presented in several locations in public space as part of the International Festival of Contemporary Arts - City of Women. In them, she dealt with the experience of manipulation, which is carried out on individuals by bodies of power and control. At the same time, the performances emphasize the power of individual will and intelligence in resistance and struggle against pressures and abuses. After 2000, she created a few more video works, including the series Collectors and NATO Women Waiting. Despite the distance in time, all works are still extremely relevant today, at the time of the rise of autocratic authorities and the Ukrainian war. Among the works presented was the amateur film Roke (Hands), which the artist shot at the film school with Mirjana Borčić at Pionirski dom in Ljubljana before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana.
