Trembling studies is part of the series of silent, usually monochrome video essays and meditations Silent Works, developed since 2016. These works dialogue with traditions of experimental documentary film, video art and early cinema and are primarily aimed to be projected on a large scale, often in groups and in dialogue with objects, installations and the space where they are shown. They are manipulations of Francisco Tomsich's own video diaries and sometimes integrate text, animations, drawing and collage.
Trembling studies was produced in the framework of the artists' residency Touch the Space, organized by Makedonida and carried out in Skopje, North Macedonia, in August 2018. It was first exhibited in dialogue with drawings which studied diagrams taken from scientific literature about earthquake-aware architecture and urban development. It is rooted on the study of the materials used to build the monuments erected in the framework of the Skopje 2014 project, and the phantasy of their dissapeareance (this is why no people appear in the footage).
