The futures is part of the series of silent, usually monochrome video essays and meditations "Silent Works", developed since 2016. These works dialogue with traditions of experimental documentary film, video art and early cinema and are primarily aimed to be projected on a large scale, often in groups and in dialogue with objects, installations and the space where they are shown. They are manipulations of Francisco Tomsich's own video diaries and sometimes integrate text, animations, drawing and collage.
The futures's original footage was produced in Hamburg, Germany, in 2014. This version was produced in the framework of the solo exhibition Elegija (Cirkulacija 2, Ljubljana, 2020) and includes experiments with glitching which are usually developed live when these works are exhibited, sometimes in dialogue with specifically produced sound ecosystems which manipulate the videos' raw data, as it is done in the framework of The Silent Movies project, developed by Francisco Tomsich and Borut Savski since 2020.
