Born in 1959 in Ljubljana. After studying philosophy and sociology at the Faculty of Arts, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. After completing his studies, he continued his studies as a DAAD scholar at Atelierhaus Worpswede. He has realized over 30 solo exhibitions, painting-video installations, over 20 art videos, and participated at film festivals with his short films. As a free-lance artist, he worked at home and abroad, participated in international symposiums, cultural capitals (Copenhagen) and art residencies (Worpswede, Kleinsassen, Düsseldorf). Since 2004, he has been a professor of painting at ALUO in Ljubljana. In the background of his works, intellectual emancipation of the artistic image is essential, and the question of how this can maintain its otherness within the equilibrium of images, how it introduces the playfulness of fiction into the dominance of the real and actively involves the spectator with its effect. The problematics of his works, which are opposed to conventions of view and established presentational practices, is shown over time as: - deconstruction of the modernist image space - fragment, reflection and framing of the postmodern image - extended spaces of painting (painting and painting-video installations) - media / inter-media (art video) - sequential painting (intermedia and painting sequences) (Photo portrait: Damjan Švarc)
