On the occasion of the Ars Electronica Festival 2009 the econtentPlus projectGAMA (Gateway to Archives of Media Art) is launching a portal to the eight founding European archives with a screening installation of selected works from the collections and a workshop.
One of the archives is Slovene archive by SCCA-Ljubljana entitled DIVA Station. It is the physical and web archive of video art which has been developing since 2005, and is one of SCCA projects, which seek to research, document and archive video/media art. The collecting of material for DIVA Station is based on a documentary, archival and research project on video art in Slovenia Videodokument: Video Art in Slovenia 1969-1998, which was developed at SCCA-Ljubljana between 1994 and 1999, and was followed by numerous curatorial selections of the gathered material, introduced under the common title of Videospotting. There were also research and exhibition projects: What Is Going on Concerning Audiovisual Archives? (2005) and inWhat Is to Be Done with Audiovisual Archives? (2007) and numerous consultations and talks with artists, curators and other experts and international collaborators who are directly confronted with the issue of storing video art and establishing video archives.

Archiving Media Art: Politics and Strategies
Workshop
September 5, 2009, 2 pm
Kunstuniversität Linz, Kollegiumgasse 2, Audimax
Archives and collections of media art are closely related to the institution's profile and mandate. Within the workshop experts discuss the significance of the institutional setting with respect to the creation of the repositories and their future perspectives. Additionally, on the basis of recent research activities, experts and artists present new ways of documentation of media art which tend to integrate the user experience into a documentation strategy for media art works - or even into the works themselves. On this occasion the new European online portal, the Gateway to Archives of Media Art (GAMA), is launched and presented.
Speakers: Annet Dekker (Virtueel Platform, Amsterdam), Anna-Karin Larsson (Filmform, Stockholm), Gerfried Stocker (Ars Electronica, Linz),Matt Adams (Blast Theory, Brighton), Gabriella Giannachi (University of Exeter), Caitlin Jones (Free curator and media theorist, New York), Lizzie Muller (University of Technology, Sydney)
