We would like to highlight a selection of longer and more complex texts which offer an overview of the research of video art in Slovenia. From the beginning, video production was strongly governed by the social, political, technological, economic and artistic context. For example, video equipment was initially difficult to access, and became more widespread with the development of the VHS format, but of poorer quality. The spread of digital technology further popularised the use of video for artistic expression, but was accompanied by problems of unstable material, encoding and conversion. It seems absurd that archival perseverance actually consists of constantly copying from one format to another... (Recommended texts in the CONTEXT section are also available under GENRES–RESOURCES.)
